The ESG Investment Associate provides analytical, coordination, and technical support to the ESG Investment Officer across Patria’s pre-investment ESG processes and fund-level compliance functions. The position plays a key role in guaranteeing the ESG-readiness across funds and asset classes at Patria — from pipeline screening through to financial close, as well as strengthening Patria’s relationships with DFI and impact-oriented LPs.
Main Responsibilities
ESG Screening & Eligibility
• Apply exclusion lists and ESG eligibility criteria to new investment opportunities at the initial screening stage.
• Prepare ESG appraisal memos for review by the ESG Investment Officer and Investment Committee.
• Maintain and update the deal pipeline ESG tracking log and internal ESG databases.
Due Diligence Support
• Assist in the preparation of ESDD Terms of Reference (ToRs) for external consultants.
• Coordinate information flow between investment teams, external consultants, and investee companies throughout the ESDD process.
• Review, summarize, and flag key findings from ESDD reports, identifying material E&S risks and gaps for senior review.
• Support targeted thematic ESG studies, such as critical habitat assessments, through desk research and thorough technical revision against IFC Performance Standards, among others.
Deal Structuring Support
• Draft ESG sections of investment committee papers, deal approval memos, and transaction summaries.
• Assist in preparing and tracking E&S Action Plan (ESAP) templates and compliance matrices.
• Support the review and annotation of ESG-related clauses in legal documentation under guidance of the ESG Investment Officer.
Fund-Level ESG Compliance
• Assist in maintaining and updating the funds’ ESMS documentation and compliance records.
• Monitor and summarize regulatory developments relevant to fund ESG obligations, especially IFC Performance Standards, plus others such as SFDR, EU Taxonomy, DFI standards.
• Support the preparation of ESG sections of LP reports, investor DDQs, and fundraising presentations.
Coordination & Administration
• Maintain ESG deal files, documentation systems, and audit trails across transactions.
• Coordinate across internal teams — legal, finance, and investment — on ESG-related workstreams and deliverables.
• Support the organization of internal ESG training sessions, knowledge-sharing workshops, and responsible investment events.
Required Qualifications
• 4-6 years of experience in ESG, sustainability, environmental management, investment analysis, sustainable finance, or development finance.
• Knowledge of IFC Performance Standards; familiarity with SFDR and equivalent DFI E&S frameworks is an asset.
• Exposure to due diligence processes in private equity, infrastructure, private credit, or equivalent asset classes.
• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with ESG data or reporting tools is a plus.
• Fluency in English and either Spanish or Portuguese required; all three are an asset.
Key Competencies
• Research, analysis, and structured documentation
• Attention to detail and process discipline
• Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
• Proactive communication and collaborative working style
• Genuine interest in and commitment to responsible investment and sustainable finance
